DALLAS (1080 KRLD) - For those who have kids or are kids at heart, the Perot Museum’s new exhibit is one you won’t want to miss.

The Art of the Brick features all kinds of sculptures and renditions of famous works of art that are all built out of Legos.

It’s the largest display of Lego art in the world.

Nathan Sawaya is the brick artist. He left his job as a New York attorney behind, and now pursues his creative passion full-time.

“I just knew I wanted to do something else,” he says. “At the end of a long day at the law firm, I would come home and want to create something. I tried different things, and in the end I thought why not Legos.”

Some works of art featured in the exhibit include a 20 foot Lego T-rex, a Lego Mona Lisa, and something special Sawaya has created just for us.

“I’ve been told that Pegasus is an important symbol and around Dallas a lot,” he says. “So I built you a brand new Pegasus sculpture.”

Sawaya gets a lot of his inspiration just from the amount of traveling he’s experienced. The Art of the Brick has been to over 90 cities. He brings a sketchbook with him as he meets new people and visits new locations, which often inspires a new piece.

“My favorite piece in the whole exhibit is always the one I’m working on next,” he says.

While Legos are fun to create with and play with, most parents know that stepping on one can be quite painful. Sawaya has worked with them for so long, he’s moved past that.

“I couldn’t tell you how many Legos I’ve stepped on,” he says, laughing. “I don’t even feel that pain anymore.”

The Art of the Brick exhibit opens at the Perot on Saturday, and will be there through August 18.
