Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said the Eagles have had real success betting it all for a year and former Cowboys coach Jimmy Johnson and Philadelphia Eagles CEO Jeffrey Lurie have no idea what Jones is talking about.

Johnson reportedly received a call from Lurie, who asked him about Jones' comments.

“I said, ‘I have no idea,’” Johnson told The Philadelphia Inquirer (quotes via ProFootballTalk.com). “Philadelphia has a couple of first-round picks in the [upcoming] NFL draft. They’ve got extra picks down the road. They’ve got some very talented players. They’ve got some talented young players.”

Johnson added, “I think the Philadelphia Eagles are gonna be good for a long time."

Here are Jones' original quotes via ProFotballTalk.com:

“Anybody who thinks I won’t take a chance, has misread the tea leaves. But I do think longer term,” Jones said last week. “And I’m real hesitant to bet it all for a year. There’s a lot of things that can happen for that year. In essence, we’re seeing a couple of teams that have had some real success putting it all out there and paying for it later, in Philadelphia and Los Angeles.

“That’s pretty impressive to have two teams in the last two years empty the bucket and get to the Super Bowl. But if you miss, it is a long go. I like where we are right now, more in the middle."

Jones' overall point is likely about how the Eagles went out and spent in the trade and free-agency market this past offseason for players like A.J. Brown, Haason Reddick, Kyzir White, James Bradberry, and C.J. Gardner-Johnson. However, Howie Roseman—the likely NFL executive of the year—took a more nuanced approach than just "betting it all." The Eagles are well stocked for the future, as well, led by a 24-year-old third-year quarterback and owners of two 2023 first-round picks, including the No. 10 overall pick from the Saints.
