Last night's Armed Forces Bowl was not really a great game but it does have one distinction.

Air Force beat Baylor 30-to-15, leaving the Bears with a 6-and-7 record for the season.

But the game will be remembered by the players and fans for mostly one thing. It goes into the books as the coldest bowl game ever.

With kick-off at 6:30 p.m. after sundown on the first full day of winter, the game time temperature was 11 degrees and -- with a fierce, frigid north wind gusting over 30 miles per hour -- the wind child factor was seven below zero.

The Baylor Golden Wave Band tried gamely to keep playing under the adverse conditions.

The woodwind players complained that icicles were forming on their instruments and the brass players said the valves froze on their horns.

Afterward, the players said the turf felt hard as concrete.
