Stars coach Rick Bowness removed from Sunday's game due to positive Covid-19 test

The Stars insist coach Bowness does not have Covid-19. But he was pulled from Sunday's game after testing positive anyway.

Test results came back during the second period intermission but play had already resumed when Bowness was removed.

Assistant coach John Stevens assumed head-coaching responsibilities for the rest of Sunday's game, which Dallas lost 1-0.

At the age of 66, Bowness is the oldest coach in the NHL. General manager Jim Nill says the team believes it was a false positive and Bowness is not experiencing any symptoms.

He also says Bowness has been fully vaccinated since January. The Stars next game is Tuesday night. It's not clear if Bowness will be back on the bench.

Meanwhile, Mavs coach Rick Carlisle missed Friday night's game, revealing 90 minutes before tip-off that he had tested positive. He, too, has been fully vaccinated since January.
