DALLAS (105.3 The Fan) - The Rangers are close to a one-year deal with free-agent starting pitcher Mike Foltynewicz, according to Kiley McDaniel of ESPN.
Foltynewicz will have an opportunity to compete for one of the spots in the Rangers rotation this season, joining Kyle Gibson, Jordan Lyles, Kohei Arihara, Kyle Cody, Kolby Allard, Dane Dunning and Wes Benjamin as the club's options.
The Illinois native was drafted in the first-round of the 2010 draft by the Houston Astros. He appeared in 16 games with Houston in his rookie season before he was traded to Atlanta.
The right-hander's best season came in 2018 when he finished eighth in Cy Young voting and earned an All-Star nod.
He only had one start with the Braves in 2020, lasting just 3.1 innings before being designated for assignment. Prior to that, he started at least 15 games in five straight seasons with Atlanta.
For his career, he is 44-42 with a 4.33 ERA.
