The blockbuster movie "Top Gun: Maverick" has grossed more than $800 million at the box office, and some of that success is due to a team at Fort Worth's Lockheed Martin.
Negotiations for the feature film began in 2017 and reports say actor Tom Cruise, the start of the film, visited the Lockheed Martin facility in August of 2018, even flying his own P-51 plane to Tarrant County, according to the Star Telegram.
Cruise spent hours researching and immersing himself in the F-35 to understand the planes capabilities. He even toured the flight line and got to meet with the fighter aircraft mechanics.
Lockheed Martin designers, engineers and aircraft model developers worked on creating the model for the fictional "Darkstar" hypersonic aircraft featured in the film.
Lockeheed Martin advisors said Cruise actually is a good aviator in real life.
