A new deep-water oil export terminal is coming to the Texas Gulf Coast, the Biden Administration has approved the permit for the new terminal.
The Sea Port Oil Terminal is planned for a site about 30 miles off the shore of Freeport in the Gulf of Mexico. It will load oil into super-tankers, potentially exporting 2 million barrels of crude oil each day.
The US Department of Transportation just granted a permit for the project which was one of the last remaining hurdles before construction.
Environmental groups had sued to block the project but the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals dismissed those claims last week.
The Department of Transportation concluded that the new deep-water terminal would reduce the number of ship-to-ship transfers of crude oil and lessen emissions from conventional crude oil loading.
