One person is dead after being shot by Irving police officers Wednesday on the southbound of President George Bush Turnpike, authorities say.
The incident happened on the toll road near Las Colinas Boulevard at around 11 a.m. Wednesday, Irving police said. They said a vehicle drove through a barricade that was protecting the scene of an earlier accident and didn't stop until it was slowed by traffic.
Police said officers gave chase to the SUV and when it stopped, the driver got out holding a knife. The man then walked toward officers, police said, and did not comply with multiple orders asking him to drop the weapon.
An officer fired their service weapon, striking and killing the driver, police said. No officers were injured in the incident.
