Nearly 26 years after a Fort Worth woman was murdered, police are now holding their long-time suspect on a capital murder charge.

In 1997, polcie say a woman named Verna Dennis was found bludgeoned and stabbed to death at her Ridglea Hills home. Nearly ten years later, Michael Puryear, the college roommate of Dennis's son was arrested. But Tarrant County prosecutors declined to prosecute, saying there was not enough evidence to get a conviction.

Puryear was out on bail when the charges were dropped and he's been free ever since. But recently, a cold case detective reopened the investigation and with the use of more recent DNA technology police were able to get a warrant to re-arrest Puryear on a charge of capital murder, the same charge for which Puryear was indicted more than a decade ago.
