Two officers were injured when a person fired a shotgun through the window of a police vehicle early Friday morning, police say.
The incident happened at about midnight in the 7700 block of Texas Highway 78, Sachse police said.
Police said a person walked up to the driver side of the vehicle as officers were completing an unrelated call and fired. The officer in the driver's seat was struck in the head, while the second officer returned fire and struck the gunman.
All three people were taken to area hospitals for their injuries, police said. The officers suffered injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening, and released. The gunman was in surgery as of the last update at 7:30 a.m.
The Texas Rangers are conducting the investigation, Sachse police said.
