An East Texas sergeant is shocked after learning his name is used in a warrant scam

The scammer said he was Sergeant Larry Christian with the Smith County Sheriff's when he called a woman and said she failed to show up for court.

The scammer told the woman she had to post a $2,500 dollar bond.

But, the real Sergeant Larry Christian says, "It was kind of strange because I'm the public information officer of the Smith County Sheriff's office. I'm dealing with news media pretty much on a daily basis and to have my name thrown out there in a fraudulent manner is disturbing to me."

Fortunately, the woman didn't fall for the scam. Sergeant Christian says no one in law enforcement will ever call someone and request money.

He also says never give any personal information. Instead, just hang up.
