For the second time in as many days, Fort Worth firefighters battled a blaze at an abandoned school in the city's Glenwood neighborhood.
They responded to the former R. Vickery School on Vickery Blvd. early Wed. afternoon.
No one was injured in that fire or the one the night before, but firefighters Tuesday night rescued a dog and reunited it with its owner.
Not only was it the second fire at that abandoned school in as many days, it's also the sixth fire there in 2023.
"There is a homeless population that lives around that area," notes Craig Trojacek, Fort Worth Fire spokesman. "Some of the causes of the fires are kind of hard to determine because of the material and other things (that) are inside of the building."
Trojacek says preventing additional fires by putting up chain-link fencing is not as simple as it may seem.
"That's not underneath our scope to go back and put up fencing. I do believe that is designated as private property."
