Texas Governor Greg Abbott says he will call another special session immediately following the end of the first one if House Democrats don't return to Austin.

The House and Senate are planning to adjourn on Friday, so the governor says he'll keep lawmakers in Austin for at least another 30 days.

Abbott says the second special session would have the "exact same agenda" and promised to call more special sessions if his agenda is not passed.

"With the Texas House and Senate today announcing they are prepared to sine die on Friday, I will call the Texas Legislature back immediately for Special Session #2," Governor Abbott said.

Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick echoed the Governor's message.

"The Texas Senate will pass the bills on Governor Abbott's special session call over, and over, and over again until the House Democrats return from their 'vacation' to do the people's business," Lt.
Governor Patrick said.

House Democrats have been out of state holding events in Illinois, Massachusetts, New York, and California keeping the House from voting on a controversial proposed redistricting map that could give republicans five additional seats in Congress.
