Two people died in a shooting at a business in South Arlington Friday. Police were called to a report of an active shooter at a salon on South Cooper about two miles south of Interstate 20 at 10:15 Friday morning.
Arlington Police say they have confirmed the case was not actually an active shooter. Instead, they say the suspect and victim knew each other, and the shooting was targeted.
People working in other businesses in the same strip mall say they heard gunshots Friday morning.
"I thought somebody was hammering something," one woman who heard gunshots from a neighboring business said. "I thought they were nailing something to the wall. The only way we knew it was gunshots is one of the operators came out and said, 'shh.' Of course, we went behind locked doors."
She says Arlington Police started going door-to-door to check on other businesses and also ensure no other threats existed.
"I thank God for what they do on a daily basis protecting us," she says.
A man who works in the same salon says he had just parked his car for the day when he saw police.
"I just walked around the corner, and that's when I saw everything, all the cops swooping in," he says. "The fire truck and ambulance were across the street just waiting for the scene to be safe."
Police say a woman went into the salon and shot a man inside. They say the two knew each other, and the case was an isolated incident.
Arlington Police say the victim died at the salon. They say the woman then shot herself. She died at the hospital.
Police say no one else was hurt. Other businesses in the strip mall started reopening Friday afternoon.
