Police responded to reports of an incident at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center during an NCA cheer event Saturday.

The incident occurred near the Omni Hotel on the 650 block of South Griffin Street, with a significant police presence at the scene. Additionally, a large fight was reported in the area.

Moments later, Dallas PD notified the public that a family reunification center would be established at 400 N Lamar.

While some people online reported that they heard gunshots, authorities did not initially describe the incident as a shooting.

“We can confirm that there was no active shooter at the Kay Bailey Hutchinson Convention Center,” said the Dallas Police Department in an X post. “More information will follow when it becomes available.”

In a follow up X post, the department said that it did respond to an active shooter call at the convention center at around 1 p.m., but that loud noises had been mistaken for the sound of gunshots.

“The preliminary investigation determined a fight between two people led to multiple poles being knocked down, which caused loud noise,” said the post. “The noise contributed to panic inside the building, prompting people to rush outside in a stampede. There were multiple non-life-threatening injuries during the chaos. No shooting occurred.”

Further details on injuries or suspects have not yet been confirmed. Local police are investigating currently.
