In partnership with the SPCA of Texas, NewsRadio 1080 KRLD brings you 'Adoptable Pet Pals,' a weekly feature to introduce you to animals that are ready for adoption.

KRLD's Kristin Diaz along with Maura Davies from the SPCA highlights the critical need for adopting families at local animal shelters by showcasing an "Adoptable Pet Pal" that has stayed at the shelter too long.

Meet our featured pet Rex!
He's a one-year-old mixed-breed pup who’s looking for his forever home!

Weighing in at 43 pounds, this beautiful brindle-coated boy is a bit shy but loves chasing tennis balls! He might have short little legs, but he’s fast as lightning.

Rex is a friendly fella but might do best in a home with kids older than five, so be sure to bring any children to a meet and greet prior to adoption. He would probably enjoy another confident dog in the home to help bring him out of his shell. Again, it’s a good idea to bring four-legged siblings to a meet and greet, too.

Meet Gigi

Meet Gigi, a friendly, three-year-old female mixed-breed pup who loves to run and play! She’s affectionate and lively, weighing in at 50 pounds.

Gigi has a shiny, short-haired tan coat with white paws and a white tip on her tail. She’s quite clever, having mastered several commands including sit, lay down and shake and has quite a soft spot for toys and treats.

If possible, Gigi would like to be the only dog in the home, but if you have another dog, be sure to bring it in for a meet and greet prior to adoption.

Gigi’s previous foster noted that she is “the sweetest, silliest and cuddliest pup ever.” Gigi is a great cuddle buddy on the couch and loves taking walks and exploring. Although she listens well, Gigi could use a bit more leash training.

Meet Georgia

She’s a delightful, female German Shepherd mix with a heart full of love and a tail that wags with joy. Georgia is five years old and weighs 70 pounds.

This sweet girl is not only a beauty to behold but also a loyal and obedient companion. Georgia is highly treat motivated, which makes her an eager and quick learner. Whether you prefer a leisurely walk around the neighborhood or more adventurous hikes, Georgia will be your loyal and well-behaved partner.

She does well with kids and other dogs, but it’s always best to bring any two- or four-legged siblings in for a meet and greet before the final adoption. This playful girl also needs a secure, fenced backyard for.

Meet Franks

A charming 77-pound, two-year-old German Shepherd mix who's eagerly searching for his forever loving home. With his striking black and tan fur and fluffy tan eyebrows, Franks is not just a dog; he's a heartthrob with a personality as big as his size.

Franks boasts dark, soulful eyes that reflect his loyalty and affectionate nature. This handsome pup is not just a companion; he's your jogging buddy, always ready for an adventure and long walks that turn into cherished memories. Franks has the energy to keep up with an active lifestyle, making him the perfect fit for families who love outdoor activities.

His long legs and strong physique are not just for show—they make him an excellent jogging companion, ensuring you stay fit while forming an unbreakable bond with this loyal canine friend. Franks thrives on spending quality time with his family, and his loving nature is bound to create unforgettable moments.

Franks will do best with a secure backyard where he can play and explore safely. He's not just looking for a home; he's seeking a place where he can be showered with love and attention. If you're ready for a handsome, loyal companion who will stand by your side through thick and thin, consider welcoming Franks into your heart and home.

October is “Adopt a Shelter Dog Month!” And in honor of the Bissell Empty the Shelters program, through Sunday, October 15th, all puppy, adult dog and adult cat adoptions are only $25 at the SPCA Dallas Animal Care Center and the Ellis County Animal Care Center (2570 FM Road 878 in Waxahachie, Texas). There’s one exception—when a senior adopts a senior pet, age seven or older the adoption fee is waived.
