Members of both parties in Texas are drawing support from national politicians leading up to the midterm elections Tuesday. The Texas Secretary of State says 31% of registered voters voted early, down from 40% in early voting four years ago.
Early voting ended Friday; election day is Tuesday November 8th.
Sunday, First Lady Jill Biden campaigned for Democrats in Houston, attending fundraisers and "get out the vote" events.
“What you do on Tuesday won’t just decide the course for Texas, you’ll help us decide the future of our country as well," Biden told about 100 people at a community center in Houston.
She also stopped at two churches and then a fundraiser for Harris County Judge Linda Hidalgo.
"They’ve changed my script here. It used to say, 'I used to watch the Phillies growing up,'" she said.
Biden also campaigned for Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee.
In South Texas, former President Bill Clinton is scheduled to campaign for Democrats Henry Cuellar, running for reelection in the 28th Congressional District, and Michelle Vallejo, running in the 15th District, on Monday.
Cuellar is running against Republican Cassy Garcia, who has previously worked for Sen. Ted Cruz. Garcia was also named commissioner for the White House Hispanic Prosperity Initiative under President Donald Trump.
Vallejo is running against Republican Monica De La Cruz in the seat formerly occupied by Vicente Gonzalez, whose district was redrawn and is now in the 34th District.
National Republican leaders rallied with De La Cruz, Garcia and Mayra Flores, the current Congresswoman in the 34th District. Flores won a special election for the district in June.
Current U.S. House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich and National Republican Party Chair Ronna McDaniel campaigned with De La Cruz, Garcia and Flores Sunday evening.
For election day, polling locations will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Information is available at votetexas.gov.
