All eastbound and westbound lanes of Interstate 30 through downtown Dallas will close this weekend for major construction as part of the ongoing I-30 Canyon Project.
The Texas Department of Transportation said the full closure will run from 10 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 24, to 5 a.m. Monday, Oct. 26, between the Interstate 35E interchange and the Interstate 45/U.S. Highway 75 interchange. A signed detour will direct drivers to State Highway 366 and Woodall Rodgers Freeway as an alternate east-west route. The Dallas Morning News reported that motorists should still expect congestion and longer travel times during the shutdown.
The work is part of the $888 million I-30 Canyon Project, which is reconstructing and improving the corridor between I-35E and I-45. The project broke ground in March and is expected to finish by 2031. Once complete, the interstate is planned to widen to 12 main lanes from the current six, with longer weaving distances between interchanges to improve safety and traffic flow.

Drivers should plan ahead and allow extra time if traveling through downtown Dallas. TxDOT has also noted ongoing long-term impacts from the project, including closures and detours on surface streets such as Botham Jean Boulevard/Lamar Boulevard, Cesar Chavez Boulevard, Cadiz Street and Akard Street that will continue for years.
Officials encourage drivers to check DriveTexas.org for the latest conditions and to follow posted detour signs. The weekend closure is weather permitting.
