Pantego Police have arrested a suspect after a stand-off that lasted about 16 hours Thursday afternoon, overnight and into Friday morning.

They were working with the Tarrant County Sheriff's Department, which was serving a warrant at a home on Grant Place.

When officers arrived, they say the woman inside pointed a gun at them.

"Officers retreated at that point in time," says Pantego Police Officer Chris Stokes. "A Tarrant County deputy did fire his duty weapon. Nobody was hit, nobody was injured at that point in time."

Stokes says Arlington Police responded with its SWAT. Officers from Dalworthington Gardens also responded, and Mansfield Police sent equipment. As the stand-off continued, Grand Prairie Police SWAT relieved Arlington.

During the stand-off, people who live on the street were told to evacuate. Others who live in the same neighborhood but farther away say roads were closed, and they heard SWAT trying to negotiate and give instructions to the woman through loudspeakers.

"It's been different," one woman said as she walked her dog Friday morning. "It's been a little nerve wracking."

She says her kids called her Thursday when they got home from school.

"They said, 'Mom, there are policemen everywhere,'" she says. "I just said, 'Go in the house, and don't come out.'"

Police were using drones, and people who live nearby say they heard flash-bang grenades a couple times.

"It's just been a circus. What can I say?" a man who lives near Pantego Bicentennial Park says. Police used the park as a staging area during the stand-off.

Before 9 a.m., police say they went into the home and found the suspect, a woman in her 70s, sitting on her back porch.

"I cannot express our thanks enough to the people in the Town of Pantego," Officer Stokes says. "I know it's been an inconvenience for some of them who've been asked to leave their homes, some of them have been asked to stay inside their homes and not be able to go to work today."

No officers were hurt during the stand-off. Friday afternoon, the woman's name had not been released. Police have not said what the original warrant was for.
