West informed Dallas County Elections Administrator Paul Adams of his resignation Wednesday afternoon. The move came after weeks of internal backlash over his unilateral decision last month to amend the party’s contract with the elections department.
West switched the May 26 runoff back to countywide voting — allowing ballots at any vote center — reversing the executive committee’s earlier plan for precinct-based voting. That system had caused long lines and turned away hundreds of confused voters during the March 3 primary.

Sixty-four precinct chairs signed a March 29 letter demanding he reverse the change and resign. West had scheduled an April 20 executive committee vote on his removal but chose to step down first. Vice Chair Tami Brown-Rodriguez is now serving as acting chair.
A retired U.S. Army lieutenant colonel, West earned a Bronze Star during deployments in the Gulf War and Iraq War. He represented Florida as a Republican congressman before moving to Texas and rising in state GOP circles. He won re-election unopposed to a second two-year term as Dallas County chair in the March primary.
