With early voting underway in the Texas runoff election, candidates are making their final push.
Former Congressman Colin Allred wants voters to send him back to Washington.
Congresswoman Julie Johnson, his opponent, has attacked Allred's record when it comes to immigration votes during the Biden administration.
We asked Allred about that ahead of a rally in Dallas with Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett.
"It's much more important that we have a member of Congress who actually can look to the future and who has a plan for what to do about what is happening now," Allred said. "Not who's talking about things that have happened before under different presidencies and different times. We are in a crisis right now."
Allred refers to the crisis as a feeling among members of the community that the government is not on their side.
Allred is also speaking about what he called a blow to minority voting rights from the Supreme Court.
"We've seen this across the South. Texas was the first one to go," Allred said. "When I left Congress, we had six Black members of Congress from the delegation of 38. If I'm not successful in this election we'll be down to two."
We have reached out to and plan to speak with Congresswoman Johnson later this week.
Early voting runs through Friday. Election Day is May 26th.
