American Airlines has become the first U.S. airline to introduce a streamlined process for international travelers and their checked baggage, aiming to significantly reduce connection times and improve the travel experience.

In collaboration with the U.S. Transportation Security Administration (TSA), U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), and the U.K. Department for Transport, the airline has launched the One Stop Security (OSS) program at Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW), its largest hub.

The program allows passengers arriving from London Heathrow (LHR) to clear U.S. Customs at the arrival gate, eliminating the need to reclaim checked luggage or undergo additional TSA screening. Instead, checked bags are automatically transferred to connecting flights, enabling passengers to head directly to their next gate without further delay.

“One Stop Security is one of the most forward-thinking enhancements we can bring to international travel — and importantly, to our customers — as it delivers a level of convenience and time-savings that’s never been available before to customers connecting from international flights," said David Seymour, Chief Operating Officer at American. "With this game-changing program and thanks to our federal partners at CBP and TSA, along with DFW Airport, our customers will spend significantly less time worrying about an onerous connection process and more time enjoying their travel journey.”

The OSS program is designed to maintain full security compliance while cutting connection times by more than half. DFW played a key role in making the initiative possible, investing in infrastructure and operational systems to support the new process.

American Airlines says the program enhances efficiency, convenience, and security, and it could serve as a model for future international connections across other airports.
