In a time when sleep has become as much a part of the wellness conversation as diet and exercise, Americans are paying closer attention to their nightly rest than ever before. According to a new study from U.S. News and World Report, 73% of adults maintain a consistent bedtime routine.
"I would have not thought it would be that high," says Haniya Rae, writer and editor at U.S. News, and a Certified Sleep Science Coach.
This heightened awareness comes amidst a boom in the sleep industry, marked by an influx of mattress brands and sleep technology designed to enhance sleep quality.
Particularly, wearable gadgets have emerged as popular tools for monitoring sleep patterns, reflecting a societal shift towards prioritizing sleep health.
The U.S. News study sheds light on the regional disparities in sleep quality across the United States, with cities like Fort Worth (#3) and Austin (#1) ranking high for restful nights.
"A lot of the better cities seem to be in the south, and a lot of the cities having trouble getting quality sleep are in the north."

The looming 2024 presidential election, the ongoing concerns about COVID-19, and global geopolitical tensions are contributing to a widespread sense of unease, affecting the sleep of roughly one-third of U.S. adults.
But many Americans are taking their quest for great sleep into their own hands. According to U.S. News findings:
65% of U.S. adults say a high-quality mattress is the most worthwhile bedding product.
57% of U.S. adults replaced their mattress within the last four years.
51% of U.S. adults wash their pillows at least every 3 months.
The trend of replacing mattresses more frequently suggests a growing investment in sleep quality, while the adoption of practices like the "Scandinavian sleep method" among couples highlights innovative solutions to common sleep disturbances.
This method, involving separate duvet comforters, aims to mitigate the age-old problem of blanket sharing, indicating a move towards individualized sleep comfort.
