There has been another guilty plea in the feds effort to bust up a fatal fentanyl distribution ring operating out of Carrollton.

Court records show 20-year-old Robert Alexander Gaitan has become the fifth of seven suspects who were charged to enter a guilty plea. He admitted to one count of conspiracy to distribute fentanyl in the Carrollton-Farmers Branch school system.

Gaitan will get a prison term between 5 and 40 years and has to testify in any trials. A US magistrate has accepted the guilty plea and it now has to be approved by a federal judge.

At least 12 teenagers were poisoned by counterfeit pills laced with lethal amounts of fentanyl, and three died. The victims span the ages of 13 to 17. The deadly drugs were often advertised via social media.

Five suspects have confessed to taking part in the illegal drug-dealing ring.

One case is still scheduled for trial and one more is still pending awaiting a trial date.
