Arlington city council approves liquor store near Viridian development

A controversial liquor store has been approved by the Arlington City Council.

Six of the nine council members voted for a businessman's proposal to build an upscale wine-and-spirits store across Collins Street from Viridian, the 2,000 acre master-planned community in north Arlington.

About 50 residents sent letters to city hall opposing the plan and some of them spoke to the council last night. Some of their remarks cited the location of the liquor store near a pre-school and an elementary school.

The council must take a second vote before the plan gets final approval. They're meeting again on October 12th.
