Arlington schools open their doors to students Wednesday with a focus on improving academic performance and complying with new state laws, Superintendent Matt Smith said.
Smith said the district aims to boost test scores at all campuses after some schools posted disappointing results last year. He added that while teacher pay raises approved by lawmakers are a welcome step, campuses need more overall funding to meet their needs.
The superintendent said staffing levels are stronger than they have been in years, but declining enrollment remains a challenge for the district.
