Arlington man hosts community event, hopes for lifechanging donations

A man in Arlington has spent the last five months planning a community event that could change his life.

More than 20 years ago, Rick Snyder in a car accident that left him paralyzed from the chest down.

"In December of 2001, I was in a flip over in a car. It nearly cost me my life," Snyder says. "I had my head split wide open and I was hanging from a seatbelt for an hour and 45 minutes before anyone found me."

Snyder sustained a C6 and C7 spinal cord injury, which took away the mobility in his legs and greatly affected the mobility in his hands and arms. Ever since the accident, Snyder has been trying to get a wheelchair-accessible van. For two decades, he's had no luck.

This weekend, that could all change.

The nonprofit Help Hope Live is helping Snyder host a fundraiser tomorrow to raise money for a wheelchair-accessible vehicle. It's called Wheels for Rick.

The event will take place tomorrow at River Legacy Park, and it'll include food trucks, live music and a lineup of VIP speakers.

"You don't want to miss the speakers," Snyder says. They are an important part of the event, because aside from raising money for the van, the fundraiser is meant to raise awareness about the lives of people living with disabilities.

"Thank you for your support," Snyder says. "I hope to see everybody out there. Let's have some fun, and let's do some fundraising!"

The Wheels for Rick fundraiser is tomorrow from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Elm Grove Pavilion at River Legacy Park in Arlington.

If you can't make it to the event, online donations are also being accepted by clicking here.
