To be as transparent as possible Arlington's police chief released the body cam footage from a deadly officer-involved shooting, footage which ultimately cost an officer his job.
Today police chief Al Jones says after watching the footage he decided to fire seven-year veteran officer Robert Phillips saying he put himself in a bad situation and didn't have to use deadly force.
"I didn't take this decision lightly," Jones said. "It was very tough for me, and it's going to be very tough for the agency to move forward through this. And I get that. But that's why I want the officers to know that I support them 110%."
The video shows police trying to pull over 40-year-old Jesse Fischer on Wednesday on a suspected DWI. Fischer led officers on a low-speed chase eventually coming to a conclusion on a neighborhood cul-de-sac.
Chief Jones has this message to anyone who says he acted too swiftly: "The facts that we know today, and the video you just saw, is not going to change tomorrow, and it's not going to change six months from now."
He says a grand jury will decide if the officer should face charges.
