The Texas Department of Public Safety is investigating a shooting in Weatherford involving an off-duty officer Sunday. The officer works for Arlington Police.
The Texas Department of Public Safety says Weatherford Police received a 911 call about 1 p.m. Sunday about a burglary at a business along Interstate 20. DPS says officers found the business had been broken into, and "the business owner stopped the burglary."
DPS later confirmed the suspect is dead.
Arlington Police say one of their officers was off-duty and owns the business. They say the officer was not hurt and is now on administrative leave.
DPS says Weatherford Police asked Texas Rangers to investigate the shooting. Arlington Police will also conduct their own investigation. Sunday evening, the Combined Law Enforcement Associations of Texas said one of its lawyers was responding to represent the officer.
DPS says there is no ongoing threat to the public.
