ARLINGTON (1080 KRLD)- Arlington police say it's a strange case of he-said-she-said as they investigate a deadly shooting.

"It's not a typical shooting case," says Arlington Police Deputy Chief Chris Cook. "It sounds like the mother was just a typical bystander."

He's referring to the mother of a 19-year-old woman who lives at an apartment complex on Cottoncreek Drive in Arlington. Cook says the woman and her boyfriend had just broken up, and around 7 p.m. yesterday she called him over to collect his things. The woman's mom was also there. At some point, a fight broke out.

"We don't know what caused the boyfriend to go to the car," Cook says. "But he went to his vehicle and retrieved a firearm-- it was a handgun-- and the girlfriend and him started struggling over the weapon. It accidentally discharged, that's how they're reporting it to us."

The woman's mother, who was standing nearby, was shot in the head. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Cook says the girlfriend may have also had a weapon, a knife, but at this point he says the details are unclear as police investigate the atypical case of "he-said-she-said."

The boyfriend, 23-year-old Bobby Davis, has been arrested on an unrelated drug charge. He's in the Arlington jail.

"The woman was released after questioning," Cook says. "We do expect additional criminal charges, we're just not sure how that's going to pan out just yet."
