Arrest made in south Dallas arson fire; two people escaped but dog died

Dallas police have released more information about the suspected arsonist jailed after a south Dallas duplex fire that sent one firefighter to the hospital yesterday.

Darwin Taylor was detained by Dallas Police after being found at a gas station not far from the fire scene on Elsie Faye Heggins, a couple of miles from Fair Park.

Taylor was questioned and then arrested on a charge of arson intended to damage habitat or place of worship.

Investigators say they have evidence that the fire was no accident.

A man and his mother managed to escape the burning duplex but their dog died inside. The injured firefighter was treated at the hospital and has since been released.
