UConn guard Azzi Fudd is headed to the Dallas Wings as the No. 1 overall pick in the 2026 WNBA Draft.
The Dallas Wings made the selection Monday night at The Shed at Hudson Yards in New York City, reuniting Fudd with her former college teammate Paige Bueckers, whom the team chose with the top pick in the 2025 draft.
Under the league’s new collective bargaining agreement, the No. 1 overall selection is projected to earn a $500,000 base salary in her rookie season — nearly seven times what last year’s top pick received.

Fudd becomes the seventh UConn player taken No. 1 overall in WNBA history and gives the Wings one of the most exciting young backcourts in the league. The 5-foot-11 sharpshooter capped a decorated college career with a strong senior season that featured career-high scoring and elite three-point shooting. She helped lead the Huskies to multiple deep NCAA Tournament runs, including the 2025 national championship alongside Bueckers.
The Wings secured the first pick after winning the draft lottery last November. The franchise has struggled in recent seasons but is clearly focused on building around high-upside talent from the nation’s top program. Fudd’s arrival pairs her with Bueckers and veteran star Arike Ogunbowale, creating significant offensive potential for the 2026 season that tips off in May.
Dallas fans have already begun reacting to the news, with many calling the Fudd-Bueckers duo a potential game-changer for a team eager to contend in the competitive Western Conference.
