A Balch Springs man is now under indictment for capital murder in the December shooting death of a Mesquite police officer.
Jamie Jaramillo, 37, is being held on $4 million bond for the December 3rd slaying of Mesquite Police officer Richard Houston.
Reports say the shooting happened in broad daylight in the parking lot of a busy Albertsons grocery store at Beltline and Cartwright in Mesquite.
Police say a disturbance began when Jaramillo's wife and daughter found him at the store with another woman.
When Officer Houston was sent to the scene it turned deadly when Jaramillo first shot Houston, then shot himself. Houston later died.
Jaramillo was transported to the hospital and survived his wounds. He was later sent to the Dallas County jail where he is also being held on an Immigration (ICE) hold.
Because the shooting involved a police officer, Jaramillo qualifies for the death penalty if prosecutors choose to pursue it.
