One of the trademarks of the Dallas skyline is the green-lit façade of the Bank of America Plaza. “The neon light from the building lets you know you're home” as Ben Kweller says in the song “Falling.”
However, how long the Bank of America Plaza remains a fixture of the Dallas skyline is up for debate, as the marquee tenant Bank of America recently announced they will be moving its employees from the building into a new location overlooking Klyde Warren Park.
Bank of America’s Dallas President Jennifer Chandler said in a statement per Dallas Morning News, “This site overlooking Klyde Warren Park, amid an abundance of walkable Uptown Dallas amenities, is an ideal space to bring our team together in a central location where they can collaborate on behalf of our clients.
“We look forward to being the signature tenant at the Bank of America Tower at Parkside as we provide a great place for our teammates to work as part of our longstanding commitment to Dallas.”
Bank of America and its predecessors in Dallas have occupied the Bank of America Plaza since the office tower opened in 1985. It still remains Dallas’ tallest skyscraper.
The new building will be constructed at the northwest corner of Harwood Street and Woodall Rodgers Freeway and is expected to open in 2027.
Jennifer Scripps, president of Downtown Dallas Inc, said in an email, “We look forward to continuing our strong partnership with Bank of America in the nearly four years that they will continue to be based in downtown and long after their move just across Klyde Warren Park.
“This is a time of reinvention for many iconic downtown high-rises, and we are optimistic that the future will remain bright - literally and figuratively - for Bank of America Plaza and its immediate surroundings.”
