The Boeing Company is facing federal criminal charges in a Fort Worth federal court today.
Boeing is being arraigned on a felony criminal charge in relation to a pair of deadly crashes in 2019 involving its 737 MAX commercial jets.
One crash took place in Ethiopia, and the other in Indonesia. A total of 346 people died when those two planes crashed shortly after takeoff.
Investigators blame the two crashes in part on a flawed automated flight control system that forced the planes repeatedly into uncontrollable nose dives.
As part of a plea deal with federal prosecutors in 2021, Boeing pleaded guilty to defrauding federal regulators and paid $2.5 billion in fines and penalties. As part of that deal, Boeing was granted immunity from criminal prosecution.
Families of the victims are arguing in front of U.S. District Court Judge Reed O'Connor of the Northern District of Texas that part of the plea deal violates their rights as victims.
