Crews worked Friday to repair a major water main break that has disrupted service across the city of Saginaw for nearly 24 hours. Authorities also issued a boil water notice for residents.
The city said a contractor struck a 16-inch water line around 9 a.m. Thursday near the intersection of McLeroy Boulevard and Saginaw Boulevard. The break led to widespread low water pressure, leaving some residents without service.
Because of the pressure loss, officials warned that water may be unsafe to drink unless properly treated. Residents are advised to boil water before consumption until further notice.
Assistant Public Works Director Jarred Coursey said crews have had difficulty isolating the damaged section by tying off the line, slowing repair efforts. He warned the work could extend well into Friday morning.
Officials encouraged residents to store water if possible. The city is also offering water pickup behind Saginaw City Hall at 333 W. McLeroy Blvd.
