A suspicious package reported in downtown Dallas during the Friday morning rush hour prompted a bomb squad response and temporary street closures, police said.

Dallas police said officers were called to the intersection of South Griffin Street and Wood Street after a report of a suspicious package, near the federal building. The department’s bomb squad was dispatched to investigate.

Authorities later cleared the package and determined there was no threat.

Police sources said investigators found the item was a small personal alarm that had been thrown away in a trash can.

Several downtown streets were shut down during the investigation but reopened after the scene was cleared around 10:30 a.m., police said.
