CAIR Action, the political arm of the Council on American-Islamic Relations, has released a 26-page voter guide for the November 3 general election that recommends dozens of Democratic candidates across Texas, including several running for statewide office.

The guide lists U.S. Senate candidate James Talarico, gubernatorial candidate Gina Hinojosa, and attorney general candidate Nathan Johnson as “preferred,” meaning they show closer alignment with the group’s priorities than their opponents, according to Texas Scorecard. Lieutenant governor candidate Vikki Goodwin received an “endorsed” designation, indicating strong alignment. The recommendations also cover candidates for the U.S. House and Texas House, along with various local races. All listed candidates are Democrats. CAIR Action states that its mission includes engaging, educating, and mobilizing Muslim voters while advancing priorities such as civil rights, immigration, and economic justice.

The guide arrives nearly a year after Gov. Greg Abbott designated the Council on American-Islamic Relations and the Muslim Brotherhood as foreign terrorist organizations and transnational criminal organizations under Texas law on November 18, 2025. The designation prohibits the groups and their affiliates from purchasing or acquiring land in Texas and authorizes heightened enforcement. Abbott said the organizations have supported terrorism and sought to impose Sharia law. CAIR has denied the allegations, called the designation baseless, and challenged it in court. The voter guide does not indicate whether any candidates sought or accepted the recommendations.

Early voting is underway across Texas and continues through October 30, with Election Day on November 3. The recommendations have drawn attention as campaigns enter the final stretch of the midterm cycle.
