A man is in critical condition after an officer-involved shooting last night in Carrollton.

Police stopped a vehicle along Belt Line Road near Webb Chapel and were investigating possible drug-related crimes when officers say the driver, identified as Keith Kemp of Paris, Texas, got out of the vehicle with a handgun aimed at his head threatening to kill himself.

Carrollton police say the man walked away from officers and when they approached him he turned toward the officers with the gun still in his hand.

"A Carrollton Police Officer discharged their weapon, striking Kemp several times," Carrollton police said in a statement.
"Kemp was taken into custody."

Officers rendered first aid and the driver was rushed to the hospital.

Farmers Branch police are involved in the investigation since the man had run into Farmers Branch from the area of the original traffic stop.

The Dallas County District Attorney's Office Public Integrity Unit is investigating.
