A Cedar Hill ISD police officer is being hailed a hero after helping to rescue a baby that was accidentally locked in a hot car.
Reports say a family went to the Lacy Enrollment Center to enroll one of their children only to discover that their 1-year-old boy got inside their rental vehicle and locked the car from the inside.
Time was ticking and the temperatures where already hovering around 103 degrees. But Detective Eric Roberts, who was doing training with Cedar Hill ISD officers at the time, was called to the parking lot to assist.
After trying unsuccessfully to get into the car by unlocking it he used a baton and smashed in a window to get the child.
The little boy had been in the car for 7 minutes but was already sweating heavily. He was taken inside the building and checked out by Cedar Hill Fire medical teams, who determined that he was ok.
In a statement Roberts said, "There was a need for service here, so I acted and responded."
