130,000 pounds of food has served thousands of people just this year alone as a result of the UNT Dallas and North Texas Food Bank's Campus Pantry. Their efforts to make sure their students and their community are feed even during trying times continued in South Dallas.

The event began at 8:00am but one community member said cars were lining up as early as 7:15 when he arrived.

"There's... I don't know how many cars just in the property here plus, there was many outside, many of us. So there's obviously a tremendous need more than we have anyway to realize."

There are a multitude of reasons someone in the community could be needing the assistance. One member of the community told us he's on disability resulting in low income.

However, another community member told us inflation has only made buying groceries even more of a challenge making the need for this event that much more important.

"It allows you to stretch your grocery budget tremendously, tremendously," said one pantry goer. "I mean I can't tell you the value of what we're seeing here."

University of North Texas at Dallas' Joe Posada echoed these statements adding in that the pantry is just one small part of making sure UNT-Dallas' students feel supported in every way.

"This is just a small part of that. So for them if we are able to address that need of food insecurity then they have a little peace of mind in knowing that whenever they show up to a classroom, show up to an event they're not going to be thinking when is my next meal," said Posada.

The food pantries will continue monthly through the remainder of the year.
