As his empire in Texas expands, a company connected with billionaire Elon Musk is asking the state for permission to dump thousands of gallons of treated wastewater in a Texas River.
The company is Gapped Bass and appears to be the same transportation and infrastructure company Musk owns called the Boring Company. According to court filing they have the same address. Boring is working to build a network of high-speed, underground tunnels aimed at easing traffic nationwide.
The company has asked the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality for the OK to dump treated wastewater into the Colorado River. If the river dump isn't approved the company asked to be allowed to use the treated water for irrigation.
While most pollutants are removed when waste water is treated there can still be trace levels of contaminants left behind.
Several Texas cities, including Austin, get their drinking water from the Colorado River.
Environmental leaders are taking comments from the public on the requests before issuing any decisions.
