FORT WORTH (1080 KRLD)- In Fort Worth, demolition and construction is underway for a new city pool.
The Forest Park Pool is the oldest city pool in Fort Worth. It first opened in June 1922. And while the pool has undergone renovations over the years, it's nothing like the rebuild currently underway.
Stones from the old bathhouse are being removed and will be re-used somewhere else, and demolition of the pool itself will get underway soon.
The city is spending $11 million dollars to redo the facility. The money is coming from the 2022 bond package approved by voters. When it's finished the new Forest Park pool will include eight 50-meter swimming lanes, a new bathhouse, a leisure pool and several play features.
It is expected to open in the summer of 2024.
