Orange is the second highest level, but it's still a step under the red-alert we have been under since the end of December.

“That changes things for people fully vaccinated,” said Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins.  “It means more freedom.  It means getting together in those small get-togethers or those medium get-togethers.  They are still cautioning against those large get-togethers.”

What the new coding does not do is remove the Dallas County mask mandate, which was imposed late December.

“The County order requiring masks in stores is still there. The public health committee will look at that as these numbers continue to go down, that won’t stay in place forever, and hopefully, we will see some even lower numbers soon. Bur for now that is still there.” Jenkins said.

The mask requirements also still applies to schools, a point of contention for some parents who say their children cannot learn while they are forced to wear masks in schools.

Jenkins says there is still only a 20-percent vaccination rate among students under age 12.

“The thing you have to remember is the numbers we have today are much lower than they were last month but they are still higher than they were when we were in the Delta variant.”

Jenkins expects the numbers to continue to fall and thinks that the coding may change shortly.
