The National Weather Service says it now has "high confidence" of measurable snow in North Texas starting Wednesday night. Monday afternoon, the forecast said one to four inches of snow was most likely with a 30 to 40% chance of five inches or more.

The University of Texas at Austin is scheduled to face Ohio State Friday night at the Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic at AT&T Stadium in Arlington.

"We are routinely monitoring weather reports, and we are in close contact with AT&T Stadium and local officials. We always have plans for inclement weather. Should conditions warrant it, we will communicate to everyone attending and connected with this year’s Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic," the Cotton Bowl Classic wrote in a statement to KRLD.

The National Weather Service says the forecast will continue evolving as the game gets closer.

"Winter weather in Texas is a game of just a few degrees, so slightly colder or warmer temperatures can lead to drastically different final results," the organization posted on its website.

Despite the potential for changes, the National Weather Service cautions "hazardous travel is likely Thursday and Friday, especially for untreated roads."

The Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic is scheduled to start Friday at 6:30 p.m.

Before the Super Bowl in 2011, snow and ice fell from the roof of AT&T Stadium, injuring six people. Since then, the Dallas Cowboys have installed a system to pump warm water onto the roof to prevent snow and ice from building up. The Cowboys also installed a ridge around the edge of the roof to break up chunks of ice and slow down any that might be sliding.
