Southwest Airlines announce employee COVID-19 vaccine requirement

Yet another airline is requiring its employees to get the vaccine.

Dallas-based Southwest Airlines announced today its employees must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19, or be approved for a religious, medical, or disability accommodation, by December 8 to continue employment with the airline.

They say they came to the decision after completing a thorough review of President Biden's COVID Action Plan and determined that because they have contracts with the U.S. government they are required to be in full compliance with his federal vaccination directive.

In a statement, Southwest Airlines Chairman and CEO Gary Kelly said: "Southwest Airlines must join our industry peers in complying with the federal government's COVID-19 vaccination directive."

Fort Worth-based American Airlines also requires its employees to be vaccinated.
