Two years after tons of old shingles were finally removed from a southeast Dallas location that came to be named "Shingle Mountain" the city of Dallas is finishing the job by removing tons of contaminated soil.
For nearly a half century the site was a dumping ground for shingles removed from roofs all over North Texas.
After the six-story pile was finally removed in 2021, an examination of the soil underneath showed lead contamination.
Now the city of Dallas is allocating $3 million more to remove an estimated 40,000 cubic yards of contaminated dirt and then fill the site with clean soil.
