Dallas-based AT&T and fellow telecom giant Verizon have agreed to a slight delay in today's rollout of their new C-Band 5G wireless service but only in a narrow radius around some of the nation's major airports.
Nearly a dozen airline CEOs appealed to the FAA and other regulators saying they feared the use of the 5G frequencies would create dangers for sensitive aircraft equipment that operates in adjacent frequencies.
Just one day before the rollout, an AT&T spokeswoman said, "we have voluntarily agreed to temporarily defer turning on a limited number of towers around certain airport runways as we continue to work with the aviation industry and the FAA."
