Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden president and CEO Sabina Carr has seen her fair share of beautiful spring setups in her more than two decades in public gardens. But this year's version of Dallas Blooms may take the cake.

"This is the arrival of spring unlike anything else I think in the United States," Carr says.

Dallas Blooms has been a tradition at the garden next to White Rock Lake since the mid-1980's. The celebration, featuring more than half a million bulbs, runs from Saturday, February 24 through April 8.

Daffodils have burst into bloom. The delicate petals of hyacinths and early spring tulips are just beginning to emerge, promising a breathtaking display in the weeks ahead. And by later this spring, cherry blossoms and azaleas will be showing off.

"Thankfully, mother nature's cooperating this year," Carr explains. "It's an El Nino year, which is usually good for public gardens. We're a little cooler and wetter, and tulips love that kind of weather. So, I think we're going to see more blooms than we've ever seen.

"It should last for a good six to seven weeks of pure color here at the arboretum."

The theme for Dallas Blooms this year is "A Picture’s Worth a Thousand Words." The arboretum has added larger-than-life living selfie walls, adding a fun photo opportunity to the Dallas Blooms experience.

"You're making memories. That's what we want to help curate—memories with you and your family, you and your friends, your community," Carr says.

"We just want everyone to know that this is their Dallas Arboretum. Everyone is welcome to be here. Everyone loves color. Everyone loves the smell of beautiful flowers.

"We're really blessed to have the arboretum here and the work that the teams have done to make it bloom and full of beauty and full of color, a riot of color to be exact."
