Dallas leaders are weighing whether to repair or relocate City Hall after years of costly maintenance and infrastructure problems.
The City Council is reviewing estimates that put deferred repairs for the I.M. Pei–designed building at between $50 million and $100 million.
The concrete structure, completed in 1978, has faced chronic leaks, mechanical failures, and safety concerns that city staff say could soon exceed what it would cost to build a new facility. The council is exploring options that include renovating the existing downtown site or constructing a new government complex elsewhere.
City officials say the discussion is still in early stages, but a decision could come before the end of the year. For now, City Hall remains open as departments continue to assess long-term solutions for the nearly 50-year-old building.
